Here’s something fun to contemplate, even if it doesn’t come to fruition: Nicole Kidman as Samantha and Mike Myers as Darren.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, it could happen. The “Moulin Rouge” leading lady is in discussions to take on the starring role in the big-screen version of the ’60s TV show “Bewitched,” about an ordinary (but gorgeous) suburban housewife who needs only to twitch her nose to clean up the house and have dinner ready on the table.
Myers is said to be the producer’s choice to play the hapless ad executive husband. No word on who would play Endora, Samantha’s mother who is actually more of a witch spelled with a “b.”
The ABC sitcom, which ran from 1964-72, starred Elizabeth Montgomery as Samantha, Dick York (and, later, Dick Sargent) as Darren and Agnes Moorehead as Endora. The seminal show, actually based on a 1942 Fredric March-Veronica Lake movie titled “I Married a Witch,” helped pave the way for “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Charmed.”
The Reporter says that Columbia Pictures will produce, though so far no writer or director is onboard. Penny Marshall, who had been developing the “Bewitched” feature, is expected to produce the project in some capacity.
