The news that Garth Brooks is ending his retirement thrilled his fans, but caused a few good-natured groans from his country competitors.
“It sure was nice for the rest of us while it lasted – we got a little more of the consumer money, joked Trace Adkins of Brooks s nine-year hiatus. “Now Garth s going to come back and eat it all up, and I ll have to get a real job again. Thanks a lot, Garth!”
Adkins adds that Garth s massive fan base will no doubt put him on top again. “Shoot, he can come back and be as big as he wants to be, I d imagine,” he says.
With multiplatinum sales of his own, Adkins’s career is in no danger either, but should he get an itch to switch jobs he s already got proven experience in home building with multiple appearances on ABC s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
This Sunday (at 8 p.m. EST on ABC) he returns to the show to help out the family of a police officer who was injured after being shot in the line of duty.
“They just do really noble work and I was happy to be part of it,” Adkins says of getting hands-on for the show. Besides, he adds, “I m a better hand than I am a celebrity!”
