It’s sweltering. You’re stuck on public transportation. But wait – what’s this? A full-service day spa in the middle of the NYC subway system?
Improv Everywhere earned internet infamy with flash mob pranks such as the No Pants Subway Ride and When Harry Met Sally in Real Life, both of which made people stop in their tracks to watch something bizarre happen. This time, however, Improv Everywhere is supplying a less abstract public service: relief from the heat.
Setting up a pop-up spa on a subway platform where the temperature hovered around a humid 95 degrees, the group filled the station with mock patrons hanging out in white towels – but they also gave out complimentary ice water, towels, massages and even provided a misting station.
And yes, a few regular, non-performing subway-goers were into it, regardless of whether they got the joke. After all, on a hot day, free ice water is free ice water, right?
